London Fashion Week Review: The Big Finale!
MARK FAST
Mark Fast’s signature barely there cobweb knits are as famous as the plus size models he uses in his shows.
So his s/s11 collection was a little disappointing with yet more cutaway dresses and tight tube skirts which this time had a touch of the rainbow brights and fringing about them.
There was a hippy-ish vibe to the pieces and even a bit of the new-romantic thrown in along with a few patent girdles. Hmm.
Fast is the king of the contour,...
Fashion pays tribute to McQueen
Fashion’s elite and celebrity fans were among those at late designer Alexander McQueen’s memorial service held in London today (20.09.10).
Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker, Daphne Guiness, Naomi Campbell and Stella McCartney – some dressed in towering heels and fascinators in tribute to the maverick talent – gathered for the service at St Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate the life of fashion’s “enfant terrible”,...
London Fashion Week: Day 1-3
Highlights So Far:
Paul Costelloe
Paul Costelloe kicked off London Fashion Week with “a fusion of ethereal prettiness with biker girl chic” – anotherwords, a cute and futuristic summer vibe in the form of of flirty, waisted dresses with high hems and full volume skirts matched with cropped biker jackets and brocade gilets with oversized bows. The distinctly pastel palette including peppermint, candy floss pink and cream was fused...
Release the Kraken! It’s GaGa vs Wintour
A meeting between the Poker Face of fashion and Lady GaGa would probably run like a scene out of The Clash of the Titans for sure.
The US Vogue editor-in-chief has branded the armadillo heel wearing singer “a childish diva”; a quote taken from Maureen Callahan’s unauthorised biography of GaGa entitled Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga. (One that Camille Paglia obviously glossed over).
Wintour most definitely did flash one of...
Hot Fashion Mamma of the Week
Ahead of her L.A.M.B (Love Angel Music Baby) show at New York Fashion Week yesterday (14.09.10), uber hot Mamma and singer Gwen Stefani proved that casual chic will always be on trend.
Rocking a layered, ruffle sleeve black chiffon top over acid wash skinny jeans, Gwen accessorised with a skinny tan belt and a pair of chunky nude wedge heels.
The look was topped off with tortoiseshell shades and her signature fire engine red lipstick.
Gwen officially...
Vintage gets my vote!
There’s nothing quite like a good old rummage through a vintage shop to feed your fashion craving for anything pre-1990. And going one better is new online boutique Gigi Vintage, who do the rummaging for you!
From classics like Diane Von Furstenberg handbags and wing-shaped YSL ‘50s retro shades that transport me right back to Marilyn Monroe in “How To Marry A Millionaire”- to hot denim trends that have travelled through fashion’s eons...
VMA’s…who wore what
I’m deliberately not talking about THAT meat frock, because I’m already over the countless “Gaga in shock meat dress” headlines and this quote from the singer herself:
“It [the dress] has many interpretations. For me this evening, if we don’t stand up for what we believe in and fight for our rights pretty soon, we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.”
Hmm....
Cher in vajayjay floss outfit at VMA’s
I’m sorry, did I miss the “let’s all go back to 1981″ announcement, as Cher rocked up in her Bob Mackie high cut sheer and sequins body stocking at the VMA’s last night. Otherwise known as: the vajayjay or ass flosser.
The outfit, reminiscent of an ensemble she wore in the video for ‘Turn Back Time” – (where she straddled various sailors and their vessels) also included her signature thigh high boots...
Kate’s another type of cover girl now
La Moss might be known as “Karaoke Kate” but alas, she’s not about to release an LP of her fave drunken warbles, no, instead she’s posed on the cover of the new album from crinkly smoothie Bryan Ferry (the one who supports his pro-hunt activist son, Nice. No, Not really).
“Olympia” features the supermod in a slinky sexy shoot inspired by Edouard Manet’s nude painting, Olympia, with Moss rocking a sultry upside...
Now you can own a little piece of Naomi
Naomi Campbell is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her career, with the help of Dolce & Gabbana at an exclusive event in New York for Fashion’s Night Out on Friday, September 10th (yes we had ours in London last night and thank you again Vogue UK!).
The evening at the Italian design duo’s NYC boutique will include two catwalk shows featuring Campbell and 14 other models who represent the iconic supermod’s different looks over...
