Sorry for the pun, but over the weekend, like you do, I did a Q&A with Tom Hiddleston and director Joanna Hogg about their film ‘Archipelago’, Hogg’s second feature that has been described as a horror film, a drama and a comedy all rolled into one but starring the British upper middle classes. I can say that because I am not of that eschelon, although that is where I date.
Wouldn’t you know that Mr Hiddleston – lanky, swanky and handsome – is also playing Loki in Ken Branagh‘s ‘Thor’ which has just a fabulon poster and all I can say is HUZZAH!
It’s got Chris Hemsworth (woof!) as Thor, Athony Hopkins chewing the scenary as Odin, Natalie Portman (woof!!) as scientist Jane Foster and Idris Elba (SWOON!) as Heimdall.
Idris Elba! Wow. Tom Hiddleston! Grrr. Chris Hemsworth! Chugga chugga… (Pornographic beat.) Anyway… there’s a lot of horseflesh here that’s worth looking at.
Now, once more unto the strapline, dear friends:
It used to be that posters would say, “From the director of…” or “Starring…” but now we’re talking studios. Weird, but okay.
Various alternative taglines do spring to mind, though:
“From the cinema that brought you sticky floors…”
“From Spec-Savers, featuring a variety of coloured contact lenses…”
“From the comic book your mother read….”
The poster looks great making the film look great.
White handsome guy, old guy, pretty girl, handsome black guy, I mean, what’s not to love? It’s got something for everyone! PLUS red letters and a name you can make jokes with.
Thor? I couldn’t sit down for a week.
