TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer is to become ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ the movie. This is no surprise, right? Everything’s being remade, from old successes to new failures. Big deal.
BUT how can Warner Bros, the studio with the $$$, go ahead with the Buffy reboot without Buffy’s TV dad – creator Joss Whedon? It seems that Buffy’s filmic rights – the ones from the failed 1992 feature film – were purchased from the folks that own those, and those are not connected to the TV rights (go figure). So, brace yourself Sheila.
We are promised, however, that quality will not be an issue because: “Whit [Anderson, actress/playwright OMG] approached us with an exciting idea about how to update Buffy. There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character’s return to the big screen. We’re thrilled to team up… on a re-imagining of Buffy and the world she inhabits. Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be.”
Well, as long as she’s as witty, tough and sexy as ever… I guess that’s all right then.
Do I hear the death knell ringing? Or is it Whedon and a legion of fans saying, “Leave me to my pain!”
It’s the latter.
