Ron Howard has reportedly committed to doing ‘My Stroke Of Insight’. If handled well, this could be a cutting-edge version of ‘Eat Pray Love’ for the mind.
The story is based on Dr Jill Bolte Taylor’s book about her stroke. The Harvard-educated neuro-anatomist couldn’t read, walk, write or recall her past. It took eight years to get better again BUT, she knew how brains worked. So, she detailed her recovery exactly.
Listen to theĀ TED talk from 2008 she did about her stroke, how it happened and what she was saying to herself throughout her own brain meltdown. Stirring stuff: hang on past her intro. It picks up about 1:52 on the vid, then she picks up a real brain and goes into how the brain functions. It gets spiritual and… well… wow. At about 6:37, her breakdown begins and by 12:30, she knows she’s having a stroke and it’s HILARIOUS! (Jill was also on Oprah. But really, watch the TED talk above.)
Jodie Foster is mooted to be Howard’s first choice to play Bolte Taylor. We shall see.
