Yes, the rumours are true – Sacha Baron Cohen – he of ‘Borat’ and of the lesser ‘Bruno’ and even less amazing ‘Sweeney Todd’ will be playing the Zoroastrian rock star Freddie Mercury in an upcoming feature film scheduled for 2011 and produced by Angelina Jolie‘s producer friend Graham King with Robert De Niro’s and Jane Rosenthal’s Tribeca Productions and Queen Films.
Peter Morgan (the chap who just can’t stop writing about Tony Blair and who has also scribed ‘The Queen’, ‘Frost/Nixon‘), is slaving away on the script already, a story that will focus on the years previous to Queen‘s Live Aid concert on 1985.
So what if you weren’t born then? You watch WWII movies, don’t you? If you need help remembering why Freddie Mercury and Queen were so great, here’s your reason.
