So last night Selfridges made history, not just for being the first retail giant to open it’s car park to fashion’s elite for a catwalk show – but because that show was Vivienne Westwood’s first-ever UK preview of her Anglomania collection.
Celebrities including Tracey Emin, Florence Welch of Florence and The Machine, Little Boots, Sadie Frost, Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts and Shingai Shoniwa of The Noisettes attended the cult show. And special guest on the front row was Dame Vivienne herself, along with husband Andreas Kronthaler, watching the show rather than organising the usual mayhem backstage for a change.
And as if by ‘PR Magic’, London It-Girl Lady Victoria Hervey also sat front row, chugging on a cigarette! No no, not a ‘real’ ciggie, but an American invention called ‘Smoke Stik’, which looks like a Malboro Light but works with some teccie gadgetry that emits a water vapour which looks like smoke. And guess what…Selfridges will apparently soon have them on sale!
The show marked the opening of Selfridge’s exclusive new Anglomania concept, where the current autumn/winter and resort collections are already on sale. London social-wannabee Daisy Lowe also made an appearance last night, but this time on the actual catwalk, previewing the new spring/summer 2010 collection, available from late December. The collection includes tribal prints, batiks and big blamanche-esque ball gowns with bustles..yep, Viv’s still got the bottom bulge going on!
Also teaming up with Viv were Brazilian shoe designers ‘Melissa’, who designed jelly shoes with wedge-soles in bright gold and fuchsia blue to compliment the collection..throw away your havaianas..these are the new Brazilians you’ll be wearing on your feet next Summer!
And entertaining everyone last night was Dionne Bromfield,13-yr old god-daughter of Amy Wino-house, who performed two songs wearing a prom dress from the Anglomania collection, saying of Viv ”Her clothes are so different, you just can’t find anything like it anywhere.”
